About the role
This role involves working directly with U.S. government agencies to build and deploy AI solutions for critical missions. You will function as a forward-deployed engineer, managing the entire software lifecycle while collaborating closely with military and intelligence stakeholders.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Collaborate with government partners to define mission requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Manage end-to-end delivery of software, including design, development, deployment, and maintenance at customer sites.
- Create backend systems and data integrations that link customer infrastructure with the Scale platform.
- Communicate field requirements to internal product and engineering teams to improve overall platform capabilities.
- Act as the primary technical contact for stakeholders to drive software adoption and mission success.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, specifically in forward-deployed, customer-facing, or government settings.
- Proficiency in Python and TypeScript or similar modern programming languages.
- Experience with full-stack development, including Linux, networking, containers, and cloud environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Ability to work independently in ambiguous, high-pressure environments.
- Must hold an active TS/SCI clearance.
Nice to have
- Experience working with generative models or LLMs.
- Proficiency with Node, React, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
- Background in data engineering, including ETL pipelines, data modeling, and governance.

Practical notes
- Base salary for Washington, DC and Hawaii: $223,200 to $279,000 USD.
- Base salary for St. Louis and Suffolk: $186,000 to $233,000 USD.
- Travel: Expect 25% to 50% travel to customer sites.
