Staff Frontier Agents Engineer at Scale AI.
About the role
Scale AI is seeking a Staff Frontier Agents Engineer to join our Forward Deployed Engineering team. You will partner with major enterprise and government clients to architect, deploy, and manage production-grade AI agent systems within their existing technical environments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and implement scalable agent architectures that integrate LLMs, retrieval systems, memory, and external tools.
- Build production infrastructure for agent runtimes, orchestration, and context management.
- Develop observability, monitoring, and safety guardrails to ensure reliable AI performance.
- Create evaluation harnesses including golden datasets, regression suites, and LLM-as-a-Judge workflows.
- Collaborate directly with customer engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical AI solutions.
- Establish reusable engineering patterns and best practices for enterprise AI deployment.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with deep knowledge of distributed systems and system design.
- Proficiency in Python and experience building production software.
- Hands-on experience with modern LLM APIs, agent frameworks, MCP, retrieval systems, or vector databases.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Ability to manage ambiguous technical requirements and iterate quickly toward production.
- Strong communication skills for direct collaboration with enterprise stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Experience deploying autonomous AI agents or large-scale backend systems.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Background in implementing grounding, safety mechanisms, or AI monitoring tools.
- Experience leading technical workshops or architecture reviews for enterprise customers.

Practical notes
