We are looking for a Systems Software Engineer to create, implement, and refine software systems for our autonomous surface vessels. This position requires collaboration with various teams to tackle the specific challenges faced in maritime technology.

What you'll do
- Develop and maintain software systems utilizing NixOS for navigation, control, and communication of autonomous vessels.
- Work alongside hardware engineers to ensure software integration with vessel systems for optimal performance.
- Create algorithms for control systems and sensor data integration.
- Enhance network communications tailored for environments with limited bandwidth and high latency.
- Perform software testing and validation to guarantee reliability and effectiveness in maritime settings.
- Engage in code reviews to uphold high standards of coding, ensuring software is scalable and maintainable.
- Diagnose and resolve complex software issues promptly.
- Document software architecture, processes, and testing outcomes for compliance and knowledge sharing.
- Keep abreast of industry developments, new technologies, and best practices in autonomous systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in software development, ideally within autonomous systems or robotics.
- Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ or Rust.
- Solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux systems and development of embedded software.
- Experience with low-level serial communication protocols (e.g., RS-232, CAN) is advantageous.
- Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP) is beneficial.
- Knowledge of sensors, control systems, and maritime operations is a plus.
- Awareness of DoD standards and regulations related to software development is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment.
- Effective communication skills and the capacity to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
