Principal Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

You will lead technical strategy and development for AI Foundations and Research, focusing on integrating Large Language Models and Knowledge Graphs into enterprise applications. This role balances high-level architectural design with hands-on coding to support data scientists and accelerate the deployment of generative AI features.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Partner with data scientists to translate project needs into technical requirements and designs.
• Establish coding standards and architectural best practices while conducting design and code reviews.
• Mentor a multidisciplinary team of frontend, backend, full-stack, DevOps, and ML engineers.
• Provide technical feasibility analysis and effort estimations for the product team.
• Represent the team in customer workshops and collaborate with internal central architecture groups.
• Contribute to the SAP Expert community and stay current with emerging technology trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor, Master, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional software development experience.
• Demonstrated success in designing, deploying, and testing multi-tenant cloud business applications with a backend infrastructure focus.
• Proficiency in building data-driven microservices and APIs.
• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, Test Driven Development, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with at least one major cloud provider.
• Experience working within an agile SCRUM framework.
• Strong communication skills for cross-cultural collaboration.

Nice to have

• Prior work in data science or data engineering.
• Familiarity with SAP Business Technology Platform.
• Hands-on knowledge of AWS, GCP, Git, and JSON.
