This role is designed for a seasoned technical leader within the Platform & Infrastructure team, with a primary focus on essential services such as compute, storage, and networking. You will play a critical role in defining the architectural strategy, scaling core services on a global level, and enhancing the technical capabilities of the engineering team. Your responsibilities will include tackling complex challenges and providing mentorship to junior engineers to ensure the highest standards of system performance and reliability.

What you'll do

• Establish and execute a long-term vision for infrastructure, creating resilient distributed systems tailored for AI workloads.
• Offer technical mentorship and guidance to engineers across various experience levels, promoting a culture of excellence and ongoing learning.
• Partner with engineering leads to identify and resolve technical bottlenecks, translating intricate infrastructure challenges into clear, actionable requirements.
• Design and implement foundational platform services that enhance the developer experience while minimizing operational complexities.
• Collaborate with product, research, and security teams to ensure that infrastructure aligns with organizational objectives while maintaining security and performance standards.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in software development and infrastructure management to optimize team efficiency.
• Engage in performance tuning and optimization of existing systems to ensure they meet the demands of evolving AI applications.
• Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions, contributing to the overall improvement of the engineering process.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing and scaling complex distributed systems.
• At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role, guiding engineering teams and influencing technical strategy at a senior level.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud-native infrastructure, particularly with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and large-scale Kubernetes deployments.
• Proficiency in GPU and machine learning infrastructure, specifically for large-scale training, data generation, and inference, including skills in GPU scheduling, optimization, and high-performance networking.
• Exceptional ability to distill complex technical issues into manageable and actionable architectural solutions.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• A comprehensive understanding of architectural patterns that support high-throughput and low-latency services.
• Experience working in fast-paced environments where infrastructure requirements rapidly evolve due to new technological advancements.
• Familiarity with multi-tenant systems, data governance practices, data registries, lineage tracking, and federated access for model tuning in sensitive intellectual property environments.
• Background in regulated environments with a focus on data residency, export controls, SOC2 compliance, and stringent isolation requirements.
