Sr. Software Engineer II, AI Platform

About the role

This role is for a Senior Software Engineer II focused on building the core platform that powers Samsara's artificial intelligence initiatives. You will be instrumental in developing scalable and reliable systems that enable AI-driven features across the company's product suite, with a particular emphasis on sales operations.

What you'll do

• Develop and enhance foundational AI platform components to support the creation and deployment of generative AI applications.
• Design and implement shared services, APIs, and execution frameworks for complex AI workflows and system integrations.
• Build backend systems that are dependable and adaptable, driving AI-powered functionalities used throughout the sales process and other business areas.
• Contribute to all levels of the technology stack, from backend services and execution infrastructure to the integration of AI models and related tools.
• Collaborate with AI engineers, data scientists, product managers, and sales operations specialists to transform new AI use cases into production-ready platform capabilities.

Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional software engineering experience, with a significant focus on creating and managing large-scale production backend or platform systems.
• Practical experience in developing and operating generative AI systems in a production environment, including integrating with large language models.
• Demonstrated experience in designing or implementing generative AI workflows, such as prompt orchestration, tool utilization, routing logic, or multi-stage reasoning pipelines.
• Proven ability to design and build distributed systems that handle multi-step execution, asynchronous processes, and clearly defined service interfaces.
• Strong command of backend programming languages like Python, Java, or Go, and experience in building reliable services with defined input/output structures.
• Expertise in Python and generative AI frameworks such as LangChain, OpenAI SDK, or MCP.
• Familiarity with considerations for generative AI quality and safety, including output validation, fallback mechanisms, and basic evaluation or monitoring techniques.
• A keen understanding of product needs and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, cross-functional settings.
• Must be located in and authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience developing AI products within sales, go-to-market, or revenue operations functions.
• Familiarity with enterprise software like Salesforce, Gong, Outreach, or similar CRM and enablement platforms.
• Experience with vector databases, retrieval systems, or real-time voice/chat processing.
• A history of leading significant technical projects or mentoring engineers in rapidly growing teams.
• Exposure to infrastructure management aspects like cost control, model performance assessment, observability, and latency optimization.

Practical notes

• Annual Base Salary: $130,900 - $198,000 USD.
• Total compensation includes base salary, performance-based bonus/variable pay, and equity for eligible roles.
