Sr. Data Ops Engineer

About the role

The Integrations, Data Engineering and AI (IDEA) team is seeking a Data Operations Engineer to maintain the health and performance of our production data platforms. You will ensure the reliability of data ingestion, processing, and warehousing while managing the integrations and APIs that support our business intelligence efforts. This position is fully remote and open to candidates based in Canada.

What you'll do

• Act as the primary responder for production data incidents by diagnosing root causes and applying fixes.
• Build and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for data infrastructure and pipelines.
• Deploy and manage data integration pipelines and APIs.
• Optimize data processing jobs and API performance for scalability and speed.
• Implement data validation and quality checks to reduce production errors.
• Partner with DevOps teams to manage AWS infrastructure.
• Create and update technical documentation, troubleshooting runbooks, and operational procedures.
• Communicate incident status and SLA metrics to management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data engineering, data science, information technology, or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Operations, or SRE roles supporting production environments.
• Proficiency in SQL for data analysis.
• Experience with Python or similar scripting languages.
• Familiarity with ETL tools such as Fivetran, DBT, or Workato.
• Experience with Python-based API frameworks and management tools.
• Knowledge of RDBMS including MySQL, AWS RDS/Aurora MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
• Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with data warehouses such as Databricks, Google Big Query, AWS Redshift, or Snowflake.
• Proficiency in CI/CD and DevOps practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with logging and monitoring tools like Splunk, DataDog, or AWS Cloudwatch.
• Knowledge of AWS serverless components including API Gateway, Lambda, S3, SNS, SQS, and SecretsManager.
• Ability to engage directly with cross-functional stakeholders to resolve data challenges.

• This role is eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff and ongoing performance-based refreshers.
