About the role
This position involves shaping the precise language of our insurance products, ensuring clarity and compliance across both commercial and personal lines. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining policy documents, endorsements, and unique wordings, guiding them through regulatory approval.

What you'll do
- Develop, modify, and manage core policy documents, endorsements, exclusions, definitions, and custom wording for commercial products.
- Translate underwriting and product goals into clear, unambiguous policy language that is sound during claims.
- Establish and maintain a collection of standard clauses and reusable endorsement language for consistency across all product lines.
- Examine coverage intent, identify unintended grants, gaps, and overlaps, and propose wording adjustments.
- Compare our forms with industry standard forms and competitor wordings to inform product positioning.
- Collaborate with product and underwriting teams to introduce new coverages and product improvements from a wording perspective.
- Prepare and manage form submissions to state insurance departments, including using SERFF, and track their approval status.
- Verify that forms meet admitted and non-admitted requirements, researching state statutes as needed.
- Coordinate with legal counsel and carrier representatives to secure approvals for coverage and form changes.
- Work with underwriting, claims, legal, and technology departments to ensure wording aligns with operational processes and system configurations.
- Provide guidance to claims on coverage interpretation and incorporate lessons from claims disputes into wording enhancements.
- Support sales and underwriting with clear explanations of coverage grants, conditions, and exclusions.
- Maintain version control, edition dating, and documentation for all forms and endorsements.
- Monitor regulatory changes, legal precedents, and emerging risks to proactively update wording and manage coverage and litigation exposure.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, English, Legal Studies, or a related field, or a Juris Doctor degree. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in drafting or managing commercial lines policy forms, endorsements, or coverage wording, or comparable insurance coverage/legal experience.
- Solid understanding of both commercial and personal lines coverages, industry standard forms, custom wording, and policy structure.
- Familiarity with state filing procedures and SERFF, as well as an understanding of admitted and non-admitted regulatory requirements.
- Exceptional written precision, with the ability to identify ambiguity, unintended coverage, and gaps in policy language.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, working effectively with underwriting, legal, and claims teams.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple forms, editions, and filings concurrently.
Nice to have
- Experience with Excess and Surplus (E&S) or non-admitted insurance.
- Insurance designations such as CPCU.
- A legal background in insurance coverage.
