Senior Software Engineer II at RWE.
About the role
This position leads the technical evolution of the Smart Data Pipeline platform, a cloud-based system managing data for over 160 renewable energy sites. You will oversee architecture, mentor engineering staff, and drive the development of data ingestion, analysis, and forecasting tools for wind and solar assets.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and maintain scalable, cloud-native data pipelines for ingestion, cleaning, and forecasting.
- Establish architectural standards, blueprints, and design patterns for the platform.
- Manage solution delivery across Azure environments, including DEV, UAT, and PROD.
- Integrate measurement systems like lidar and met masts with enterprise IT platforms.
- Define and enforce security, performance, and coding standards across all services.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between business stakeholders and development teams.
- Mentor engineers and lead knowledge-sharing initiatives to improve team capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 7 years of software engineering or data platform experience.
- Proven track record in designing multi-stage data pipelines and validation workflows.
- Experience architecting solutions on Azure, including Kubernetes, Containers, and Azure Functions.
- Proficiency in React, Typescript, C#, Python, and Terraform.
- Experience with distributed systems, microservices, messaging systems like RabbitMQ, and API design.
- Ability to manage access control schemes for both human-to-system and system-to-system interactions.
- Experience working with global teams across multiple time zones.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Nice to have
- Microsoft Azure certifications such as AZ-900, AZ-204, or AZ-305.
- Experience with Dapr, Apache Airflow, or Azure Databricks and Delta Lake.
- Knowledge of time-series machine learning pipelines or wind resource assessment data.
- Background in operational data ingestion from SCADA or sensor networks.
Skills & tools
- Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, GitHub.
- SQL, Parquet, CSV.
- Linux and Windows server administration for Docker.
- CI/CD pipelines, observability frameworks, and infrastructure as code.

- This is an office-based role requiring occasional travel to other RWE offices and field sites.
