The Artiste FX

Senior et intermédiaire role owns the creation and execution of complex visual simulations from start to finish. You will operate at the heart of Rodeo FX's 3D pipeline, partnering closely with effects supervisors, CG teams, and production departments to deliver sequences that marry photographic realism with dynamic impact and technical robustness. This position demands creative ingenuity, meticulous attention to detail, and procedural mastery to faithfully interpret artistic intent while respecting demanding production standards. You will be entrusted with end-to-end ownership of assigned shots, solving technical constraints, and preserving the artistic integrity of each scene within a high-stakes, deadline-driven environment.

What you'll do

• Orchestrate full visual effects sequences, moving from initial concept development through final delivery with precision and ownership.
• Generate sophisticated simulations using Houdini, including Pyro, Flip, RBD, and Vellum, while maintaining strict alignment with artistic direction and technical guidelines.
• Exercise proactive problem-solving to resolve technical challenges and protect the creative vision throughout the production lifecycle.
• Conduct meticulous quality checks on simulation files, caches, and workfiles before passing work to downstream departments.
• Streamline pipeline efficiency by optimizing caches, managing dependencies, and ensuring setups remain stable, scalable, and well-documented.
• Collaborate with the Pipeline team to evaluate, integrate, and test new tools that enhance workflow and meet project requirements.
• Interpret notes from supervisors and directors, then adapt simulations to match evolving narrative, stylistic, and rhythmic needs.
• Contribute creative enhancements to existing shots, adding value through iteration, experimentation, and thoughtful iteration.
• Communicate clearly and professionally during daily standups, retrospectives, and reviews to keep all stakeholders aligned.
• Provide realistic time estimates, escalate risks early, and support schedule adjustments in coordination with production and senior artists.

Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in visual effects at a studio environment is strongly recommended.
• Expert-level proficiency in Houdini, with demonstrated mastery of Pyro, Flip, RBD, Vellum, and SOP workflows for complex effect generation.
• Foundational knowledge of compositing in Nuke and rendering workflows using Arnold and Karma.
• Familiarity with USD and Solaris for managing modern asset pipelines and scalable scene organization.
• Strong instinct for motion, physics, and visual rhythm to ensure simulations feel believable and purposeful.
• Exceptional discipline, self-motivation, attention to detail, and the ability to work autonomously while remaining a collaborative team player.
• Solid understanding of production pipelines, file management conventions, and technical constraints within a VFX studio.
• Aptitude for quickly diagnosing technical issues and implementing robust, production-ready solutions under pressure.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Flow Production Tracking for monitoring shot progress and dependencies.
• Experience developing Houdini tools or scripting with Python or VEX to automate tasks and extend functionality.
