About the role
This position leads the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency. You will guide the company's financial integrity, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer. This role involves both strategic planning and hands-on execution in a dynamic, AI-focused environment.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Direct the company's accounting function, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting per US GAAP.
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, striving for speed and automation.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting documentation.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and internal controls.
- Support external audits, tax compliance, and statutory reporting.
- Oversee payroll, accounts payable, revenue accounting, fixed assets, cash, general ledger, and expense accounting.
- Implement new systems to enhance operational efficiency.
- Lead and mentor the Accounting Manager and other finance team members, setting goals and development plans.
- Collaborate with the CFO on accounting strategy, financial planning, cash management, and special projects.
- Partner with the Director of Order-to-Cash to align billing, collections, and revenue recognition.
- Work with People & Talent on payroll, benefits, and equity compensation accounting.
- Support board reporting, investor diligence, and strategic initiatives.
- Drive automation and AI-enabled improvements in accounting operations.
- Evaluate and implement best practices to improve efficiency and reduce manual tasks.
- Contribute to enhancements of ERP, payroll, and other financial systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- At least 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
- Experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leader in a high-growth technology or SaaS company.
- Strong understanding of US GAAP and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
- Experience managing month-end close processes and external audits.
- Experience overseeing payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting operations.
- A strong systems orientation with a history of improving financial processes through automation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with shifting priorities.
Nice to have
- CPA certification (required or strongly preferred).
- Background in public accounting (Big Four or national firm).
- Experience with SaaS subscription revenue and usage-based billing.
- Experience with equity accounting and stock compensation.
- Experience with modern ERP and financial systems.
