About the role
Join a leading engineering team dedicated to developing the cloud platform that supports millions of connected devices across various domains, including security, comfort, air, and water solutions. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will take on the role of a technical leader for significant projects, guiding small teams of engineers and ensuring successful delivery across multiple system layers, from device integration to cloud services and application usage.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Oversee medium to large-scale projects from initial requirements gathering through design, implementation, and production stabilization.
- Lead a small group of 2-3 developers, providing technical guidance, breaking down tasks, and ensuring accountability for delivery.
- Engage in hands-on development while also managing leadership duties, remaining involved in critical coding and design choices.
- Facilitate collaboration among various teams, including Product, Firmware, Mobile, QA, SRE, DevOps, and partner teams, to ensure integrated solutions across different layers.
- Design and enhance backend services using C#/.NET on Azure within a distributed, event-driven framework.
- Create clear service contracts using OpenAPI, JSON Schema, and contract-first design methodologies.
- Architect and implement event-driven processes utilizing Event Hubs, Service Bus, IoT Hub, Event Grid, and internal messaging systems.
- Make practical architectural choices that consider scalability, reliability, project timelines, and long-term maintenance.
- Lead the discovery of technical requirements in partnership with Product and other teams, transforming vague inputs into precise technical designs.
- Produce high-quality documentation (RFCs, design documents, sequence diagrams, operational notes) to support efficient execution.
- Establish and maintain clear ownership boundaries, contracts, and integration expectations across systems and teams.
- Advocate for strong software engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, safe deployments, and gradual rollouts.
- Enhance observability, resilience, and operational readiness through metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting.
- Conduct performance evaluations and capacity planning for high-volume device telemetry and fan-out tasks.
- Participate in incident investigations, ensuring that insights lead to lasting fixes and improvements in the platform.
- Assume responsibility for features in production, including on-call duties, root-cause analysis, and long-term solutions.
- Identify platform deficiencies and propose initiatives to enhance scalability, reliability, developer experience, or cost-effectiveness.
- Serve as a technical contact for complex integrations that involve multiple services and teams.
