Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and implement scalable backend services and APIs that form the foundation of Remitly's transaction processing system.
- Play a key role in the creation of a unified Transaction Platform Gateway and assist in migrating users from outdated systems to modern APIs.
- Manage features from inception to completion, translating requirements into technical designs, breaking down tasks, estimating effort, and ensuring high-quality delivery, including testing and documentation.
- Utilize AI tools to enhance development speed, ensuring that AI-generated outputs meet the team's standards for accuracy and security.
- Enhance the reliability and performance of critical transaction systems and participate in the team's on-call schedule.
- Collaborate with product managers and engineers to translate user needs into effective technical solutions.
- Provide constructive feedback during code and design reviews, maintaining high standards for code quality.
- Mentor colleagues through code reviews and collaborative programming sessions when possible.
Requirements
- A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in software development, particularly in building and maintaining production backend systems.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Go, Kotlin, or similar (Java, Python, C++), with a demonstrated capacity to learn new technologies.
- Experience designing and developing distributed systems on cloud platforms, especially AWS.
- Familiarity with deployment, testing, logging, and monitoring practices, including CI/CD methodologies.
- Ability to navigate ambiguous feature requirements and independently drive projects from design to implementation.
- Proven experience in writing clean, modular, and well-tested code, along with conducting thorough code reviews.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and propose solutions.
- Experience using AI tools to enhance the software development process in a production environment.
Nice to have
- Background in payments, fintech, or similar fields where data accuracy and traceability are crucial.
- Experience with large-scale migrations of high-throughput systems, including service decomposition and API-first re-platforming.
Compensation Details
The starting salary for this role typically ranges from $144,000 to $180,000. Remitly employees in the U.S. are shareholders in the company, and equity is included in the overall compensation package.
