Staff Structures Engineer at Relativity Space.
About the role
This role involves the entire design process for primary and secondary structures on the Terran R vehicle, including conceptualization, analysis, manufacturing, and testing. You will contribute to components like the Thrust Structure, Propellant Tanks, Interstage, or Fairing. The position requires innovative thinking to optimize mass, reduce part count, streamline processes, and minimize tooling needs.

What you'll do
- Develop innovative concepts for structural load paths, complex structure designs, and adjacent system packaging.
- Review static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, test data, and structural system requirements.
- Analyze and size flight structures to ensure timely design reviews and drawing releases.
- Design flight components for the Terran R vehicle using NX/TeamCenter.
- Perform structural analysis using Nastran, ANSYS, or hand calculations.
- Create and release engineering drawings.
- Support hardware test campaigns, including integration, operation, and evaluation of results.
- Assist with manufacturing process development.
- Document your work and present recommendations for decision-making.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in a design engineering role.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Significant experience with industry-standard CAD software like NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
- Practical knowledge of structural analysis methods, including hand calculations, Finite Element Methods, and industry tools.
- Practical knowledge of structural testing.
- Fundamental understanding of structural strength, stability, and fatigue failure mechanisms.
- Fundamental understanding of additive and traditional manufacturing processes.
- Experience with full lifecycle project ownership.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of leading projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- 8+ years of mechanical or structural design and analysis experience.
- Extensive experience with NX/TeamCenter.
- Expertise using Nastran and ANSYS.
- Experience with GD&T and drafting.
