Manager, Software Engineering at Relativity Space.
About the role
Relativity Space is developing the Terran R rocket to expand launch capacity and advance space exploration. You will lead a team building the digital infrastructure that enables our engineers to design, simulate, and test vehicle performance.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a team of 5-10 engineers, overseeing performance reviews and career growth.
- Define the roadmap and technical priorities in collaboration with test and design engineering groups.
- Set standards for code quality, testing, deployment, and incident management.
- Provide architectural guidance to keep the team moving forward.
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Write and ship production code as your schedule allows.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of software engineering experience working across multiple production systems.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, retaining, and developing engineering talent.
- Proficiency in React and modern frontend frameworks.
- Fluency in at least one backend language, such as Go or Python, with a willingness to work across the stack.
- Ability to drive architectural decisions and build consensus among technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft design documents and provide constructive feedback.
Nice to have
- 3+ years of experience managing a team of 5-10 direct reports.
- 7+ years of total software engineering experience.
- Experience managing other managers or multiple teams.
- Background in scientific computing, engineering analysis tools, or data-intensive software.
- Familiarity with CAE, CAD, simulation, or test data systems.
- Experience in hardware-focused industries like automotive or aerospace.
- Background in MLOps, DevOps, or data platform engineering.
