Lead Hardware Engineer

About the role

You will lead a portion of the Avionics Hardware team, managing electrical engineers through the full lifecycle of custom electronics for the Terran R rocket. This role involves guiding the team from initial design and board bring-up through qualification, flight production, and vehicle operations.

What you'll do

• Manage and mentor a team of electrical engineers on technical and non-technical best practices.
• Oversee strategic planning, design, development, testing, and implementation of avionics systems.
• Drive engineering processes including requirements capture, design reviews, and verification.
• Partner with cross-functional teams such as propulsion, GNC, fluids, and stage engineering to ensure vehicle-level integration.
• Deliver projects on time and within budget.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in electronics design for mission-critical applications in harsh environments like launch vehicles, aircraft, spacecraft, or robotics.
• Experience leading engineers in domain-specific technical principles.
• Experience managing the full product lifecycle and cross-functional collaboration with mechanical, thermal, and software teams.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with embedded software development and integration.
• Experience with design for reliability and manufacturability.
• Technical expertise in power electronics (motor drives, DC-DC converters, load switches, high voltage DC).
• Technical expertise in digital electronics (high speed serial interfaces like SPI, PCIe, Ethernet; memory interfaces; SoCs; microcontrollers).
• Technical expertise in mixed-signal electronics (ADCs, DACs, signal conditioning, amplifiers, filter design).
