About the role
You will spearhead the development of avionics hardware for the Terran R launch vehicle, managing the creation of electronics and mechanical systems from initial design through to flight. This leadership position involves guiding engineering teams and managers to build reliable hardware capable of withstanding extreme spaceflight conditions.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Direct the design and development of PCBA electronics, including RF, power, digital, and mixed-signal systems.
- Oversee mechanical hardware projects such as thermal management systems, enclosures, brackets, trays, and isolators.
- Manage vehicle-level packaging, harnessing, and system bring-up activities.
- Guide the full product lifecycle, covering requirements definition, architecture, testing, manufacturing introduction, and operations.
- Mentor engineering managers and foster professional growth within your teams.
- Coordinate with propulsion, GNC, fluids, and stage engineering departments to ensure system integration.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical and mechanical hardware development for mission-critical, harsh-environment applications like robotics, space, or aviation.
- 7+ years of experience in an engineering leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated success in managing and developing other engineering leaders.
- Proven ability to navigate hardware development from concept through manufacturing and operations.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in electrical CAD tools like Altium and mechanical CAD tools like NX.
- Background in embedded software development.
- Experience with environmental testing, including TVAC, shaker tables, and thermal chambers.
- Knowledge of radiation effects and EMC design and testing.
- Familiarity with thermal, mechanical, and electrical analysis software and methodologies.
