Senior Avionics Quality Inspector at Relativity Space.
About the role
You will ensure the quality of avionics systems for the Terran R rocket, from incoming parts to final installation. This role involves extensive travel to supplier sites to perform inspections and audits. You will contribute to building a scalable quality system as the program moves into production.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Inspect incoming PCBAs and perform quality checks on avionics systems, including subassemblies, components, wire harnesses, and installations, ensuring adherence to regulatory and company standards.
- Travel up to 80% of the time to local and domestic supplier locations for source inspections, audits, and to support supplier quality efforts.
- Maintain detailed records and documentation for avionics components and systems, tracking their status and history.
- Stay informed about current industry standards, regulations, and best practices in avionics quality assurance and inspection.
- Provide guidance and training to other team members on avionics quality inspection methods.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all safety regulations.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of experience as a PCBA Inspector in a manufacturing setting, ideally within a quality department.
- Ability to travel between 50% and 80% of the time.
- Proficiency in inspecting solder joints, crimping, conformal coating, staking, and surface-mounted devices according to NASA 8739 and/or IPC-J-STD-001, IPC-A-610 standards.
- Knowledge of cable harness assembly and inspection standards, specifically NASA-STD-8739.3 and 8739.4 and/or IPC-A-620.
- Experience conducting continuity tests using a DMM and performing inspections with portable measuring devices.
- Familiarity with avionics systems, components, and installations, including the ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
- Exceptional attention to detail for conducting thorough inspections and ensuring compliance.
Nice to have
- Experience with process development and initial quality efforts.
- Highly organized, capable of structuring undefined processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects or teams and drive quality improvements.
- Certified or previously certified in IPC-A-620, IPC-A-610, or J-STD-001.
