Reddit seeks a seasoned Engineering Manager to guide its Feed Ecosystems team. This role involves leading a group of Machine Learning Engineers focused on developing recommendation systems that foster growth across users, posts, and communities.

What you'll do

• Shape the technical direction and long-term strategy for Feed Ecosystems, aligning ML investments with Reddit's objectives for user expansion, contribution, community health, and discovery.
• Mentor and support the professional growth of your team members, identifying avenues to enhance their skills and influence.
• Collaborate with product, design, data science, safety, community, ads, and platform teams to identify opportunities, manage expectations, and communicate team progress.
• Oversee the design, development, and refinement of ML systems to improve initial relevance, distribution of new content and communities, community discovery, and overall feed quality.
• Contribute to defining and implementing metrics for subjective and objective quality, ensuring Feed systems optimize for user value, community health, contribution, and long-term ecosystem health, not just engagement.
• Work with platform and infrastructure teams to build scalable AI systems supporting discovery, personalization, and healthy content distribution.
• Uphold high standards for system performance, reliability, efficiency, and responsible AI practices.
• Partner with recruiting to attract, interview, and hire diverse and skilled machine learning engineers.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years managing ML or recommender systems teams.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale production ML systems, including recommender systems, personalization, cold-start modeling, content understanding, or LLM-based recommendation applications.
• Strong understanding of recommender systems, covering candidate retrieval, ranking, value modeling, ecosystem dynamics, and measurement.
• Ability to develop and articulate a clear technical strategy for complex problems, balancing user relevance, community growth, content quality, safety, and business impact.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the capacity to explain technical concepts to various audiences and build relationships with cross-functional partners.

Practical notes

• Base salary range: $253,300 - $354,600 USD.
• Eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units.
• May be eligible for commission depending on the specific role offered.
