About the role
Raft is focused on developing essential data platforms for the Department of War that manage billions of events daily from various sensors and operational sources. These platforms provide critical intelligence to operators for timely decision-making. We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to our mission.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop data infrastructure and platforms utilizing streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka, Flink, and Kafka Streams
- Create Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines to support extensive data operations
- Apply software engineering practices to design, build, and implement large-scale streaming applications
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience
- Proven experience in constructing and managing fault-tolerant, data-heavy platforms using streaming technologies like Kafka, Pinot, or Flink
- Familiarity with large-scale relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Elasticsearch to meet low-latency demands
- Background in data management, including ETL processes, data governance, and data storage
- Experience in building and deploying applications in cloud-native settings
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to container deployments in Kubernetes environments
- Proficiency with various package and dependency managers such as Maven, Gradle, and NPM
- Strong understanding of software design and architectural patterns
- Must obtain Security+ certification within the first 90 days of employment
Nice to have
- Experience with Kubernetes
- Familiarity with monitoring (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and logging (e.g., Fluentbit, Kibana, Loki) solutions in cloud-native environments
- Solid knowledge of Helm Charts
- Understanding of service mesh technologies like Istio
- Experience with enterprise Cloud applications or infrastructure
- Proficiency in automation languages such as Python or GoLang
Clearance Requirements:
- Must have an active Secret Clearance to start and the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance
Salary Range: $140,000 - $190,000
- Compensation will be determined based on the candidate's overall experience, skills, and abilities
Work Type:
- Hybrid work model in Rome, NY, Hanscom, or the National Capital Region
- Domestic travel may be required up to 35% to customer sites
