About the role
Join Quora's engineering team to build and enhance the machine learning infrastructure that powers our knowledge-sharing platform and AI chatbot service, Poe. You will contribute to systems that serve millions of users and support over 100 production machine learning models. This is an opportunity to work on large-scale distributed systems and GPU serving performance as a new graduate.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Develop and maintain the foundational systems for Quora's machine learning operations, focusing on reliability, scalability, and speed.
- Construct and refine distributed systems responsible for delivering ML models, including those for recommendations and language processing, to users.
- Optimize the performance of GPU-based model serving to reduce latency, increase throughput, and manage costs effectively.
- Contribute to platform advancements, such as standardizing PyTorch usage and modernizing the ML toolchain.
- Create tools to streamline the ML development lifecycle, enabling engineers to build, test, and deploy models more efficiently.
- Enhance our feature store to accelerate the integration of new data features into production models.
- Participate in on-call duties to address production issues and gain deep understanding of the platform.
Requirements
- A graduate in 2025 or 2026 with a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- A strong interest in large-scale distributed systems, infrastructure development, and machine learning concepts.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, or C++, or the demonstrated ability to quickly acquire these skills.
- Availability for communication during Quora's core working hours (Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm Pacific Time).
Nice to have
- Prior software engineering experience through internships, work, open-source projects, or coding competitions.
- Familiarity with ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow from coursework or practical application.
- Exposure to container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker) or cloud platforms such as AWS.
- Experience with performance tuning, profiling, or benchmarking at a low level.
