Staff Applied Scientist

About the role

Qualtrics is seeking a Staff Applied Scientist to advance our artificial intelligence and machine learning strategy. You will lead R&D efforts to integrate intelligent features across our platform, directly impacting how our global clients manage their experience data.

What you'll do

• Research, implement, and maintain machine learning models for a growing business.
• Lead design reviews, modeling discussions, and technical requirement definitions.
• Mentor junior scientists and establish standards for experimentation, reproducibility, and production monitoring.
• Champion Evaluation-Driven Development by integrating automated testing and risk assessments into the agentic lifecycle.
• Develop and optimize algorithms for scalable GenAI applications.
• Present research findings to the broader community and stay current with industry advancements.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to incorporate feedback into model development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of industrial research experience in machine learning, NLP, information retrieval, deep learning, or related areas.
• Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or MXNet.
• Experience with machine learning systems like SageMaker or MLFlow.
• Proven ability to evaluate complex, multi-turn agentic systems, including tool-use reliability and benchmarking in CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Publication record in top-tier conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, SIGIR, ICLR, ACL, or EMNLP.

• Machine Learning, NLP, Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning.
• GenAI, LLM-as-a-judge frameworks, agentic system evaluation.

Practical notes

• Hybrid work model requires three days in the office per week: Mondays, Thursdays, and one additional day determined by leadership.
