Infrastructure/SRE Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Infrastructure/SRE Engineer to enhance and develop the cloud platform that supports Edge Impulse. In this position, you will collaborate with the infrastructure team to oversee AWS resources using Terraform, manage Kubernetes clusters with Karpenter and Cilium, and establish CI/CD workflows in Buildkite. Your work will influence both the cost and performance of our platform, which handles a mix of CPU and GPU workloads for machine learning model training and deployment.

What you'll do

• Oversee and optimize AWS infrastructure utilizing Terraform across various environments.
• Maintain and scale Kubernetes clusters with Karpenter, focusing on GPU node pools for machine learning tasks and resolving scheduling and lifecycle challenges.
• Contribute to our Cilium-based networking layer, managing network policies and ensuring traffic observability through Hubble.
• Develop and sustain CI/CD pipelines using Buildkite.
• Handle deployments via ArgoCD, incorporating automated health checks and rollout strategies.
• Create internal tools and automation scripts in TypeScript.
• Implement monitoring and alerting solutions using Datadog.
• Advocate for security best practices, including managing secrets and access controls.
• Engage in incident response, capacity planning, and initiatives for cost optimization.

Requirements

OR

A Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in Software Engineering or a related field.

OR

A PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, with at least 2 years of experience in Software Engineering or a similar capacity.

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline, along with at least 4 years of experience in Software Engineering or a similar role.
• A minimum of 2 years of experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
• Candidates with equivalent experience are encouraged to apply, provided they can demonstrate the necessary skills and competencies for the role.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with GPU-accelerated workloads on Kubernetes.
• Experience with ArgoCD or similar GitOps practices.
• Knowledge of Datadog, HashiCorp Vault, PostgreSQL, and Redis.

Skills & tools

• Strong expertise in AWS services, including EKS, RDS, S3, IAM, and VPC.
• Proficient in Terraform for production use.
• In-depth understanding of Kubernetes, including networking, RBAC, and autoscaling with Karpenter.
• Experience with Cilium or eBPF-based networking, including network policies and observability concepts.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline tools such as Buildkite.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Python, or Bash.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly in a fully remote team environment.
