About the role
This role owns the end-to-end integration strategy for all building services and utility systems that connect directly to the Proxima Fusion fusion machines and their critical infrastructure. You will resolve cross-disciplinary conflicts between mechanical, electrical, and cryogenic disciplines to ensure that the Alpha and Stellaris device designs can be constructed, commissioned, and maintained safely and efficiently. The position translates high-level machine requirements into clear, buildable interfaces that align with site constraints and operational needs. Success in this role establishes a scalable and repeatable path toward commercial stellarator power plants by proving that complex utility systems can coexist with advanced plasma environments. You will act as the primary technical liaison between the physics and engineering teams and the construction and facilities groups. The work demands rigorous analysis, proactive risk management, and a solutions-oriented mindset from day one.

What you'll do
Lead integration reviews that synchronize building-services and electrical and cryogenic systems to validate constructability and machine-to-building interfaces for the fusion facility.
Translate complex machine requirements into detailed interface control documents that guide the design and installation of utilities, mechanical systems, and electrical infrastructure.
Identify constructability and operability issues early through rigorous digital model review, ensuring clashes and coordination problems are resolved before procurement.
Coordinate with multidisciplinary stakeholders to align diverse perspectives around clear interface logic, avoiding miscommunication and costly rework.
Support the development and maintenance of digital twins and models that represent the as-built conditions of all integrated systems.
Drive the implementation of configuration control processes to manage changes to utility routing, panel schedules, and cryogenic piping systems without disrupting the overall design integrity.
Perform gap analyses between design intent and site constraints, proposing practical adjustments that maintain safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Collaborate with external contractors and consultants to ensure that delivered systems meet the stringent technical standards required for stellarator operation.
Track and report on integration milestones, highlighting risks, dependencies, and mitigation strategies to senior engineering and project management.
Contribute to the development of standardized integration checklists and review protocols that can be reused across future fusion projects.
Ensure that all building services and MEP systems comply with relevant industry codes, safety regulations, and internal quality procedures.
Facilitate traceability from high-level requirements down to individual system components to support verification and validation activities.
Act as a mentor for junior engineers, sharing best practices in utility coordination, constructability reviews, and interface management.
Participate in on-site visits and design office reviews to verify that installation work matches the approved digital models and specifications.
Support the preparation of technical documentation for regulatory submissions, audits, and stakeholder reviews related to facility integration.
Requirements
A degree in mechanical engineering, building services engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is mandatory.
Experience integrating utilities or building-services systems in complex technical or industrial environments is mandatory.
Comfort with incomplete or evolving requirements and shaping early engineering solutions is mandatory.
Identifying constructability and operability issues early through digital model review is mandatory.
Diverse stakeholders align around clear interface logic is mandatory.
A strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and cryogenic systems and how they interact in large-scale technical facilities is required.
Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and model files from multiple disciplines is essential.
Solid experience with coordination tools such as BIM, CAD, and clash detection software is a strict prerequisite.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to articulate technical issues to both engineering and non-technical audiences.
The ability to work methodically under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced fusion energy environment is necessary.
