About the role
Protolabs is seeking a technical leader to manage the backend systems that power our digital manufacturing pricing engine. You will work within a complex marketplace environment to ensure our automated quoting processes remain accurate, scalable, and reliable.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and build backend services for rate calculation, discounting, and billing integrations.
- Manage the full software development lifecycle from initial design through deployment and production monitoring.
- Collaborate with Product, Finance, Sales, and Data departments to convert business needs into technical solutions.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level staff.
- Improve CI/CD workflows, infrastructure-as-code, and overall platform reliability.
- Perform root cause analysis on production issues and implement long-term fixes.
- Ensure all pricing APIs meet performance and SLA requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years of professional backend software engineering experience.
- 2+ years of production experience with billing, payments, or pricing systems.
- Proficiency in Python or C#.
- Experience with relational databases like PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and query optimization.
- Ability to design RESTful or gRPC APIs.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, including event-driven architecture, idempotency, and retry logic.
