Senior Python Developer

About the role

Protolabs is seeking a Senior Python Developer to join its Manufacturing Partner Marketplace team. This role focuses on building critical systems that manage the entire order lifecycle, from matching orders with manufacturers to ensuring on-time delivery. You will contribute to the core operations of a leading digital manufacturing company.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Design and deliver features from start to finish, collaborating with various stakeholders to solve complex marketplace challenges.
• Create APIs and backend systems that power the order process, from supplier selection to final delivery.
• Guide architectural decisions and enhance the technical foundation of the platform.
• Mentor other engineers and elevate engineering standards within the team.
• Integrate with eventing systems and scale the platform as order volumes increase.
• Improve product quality through testing, observability, and best practices.
• Work with the Backend guild to establish standards and improve backend systems.

Requirements

• 7 or more years of experience building web applications and backend services.
• Strong skills in Python for designing, developing, testing, and monitoring production systems.
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD environments.
• Proven ability to lead technical projects and mentor engineers.
• Experience working in an agile team alongside product managers and designers.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Nice to have

• Experience with marketplace platforms or operational systems.
• Deep understanding of event-based architectures.
• Familiarity with Angular.
