Model Finisher - DMLS

About the role

Protolabs is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join our DMLS team to handle the cleaning and finishing of additive manufactured parts. You will ensure that all products meet our internal standards and customer specifications while maintaining a safe and efficient production environment.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Perform finishing tasks including hand finishing, cleaning, measuring, sanding, grit blasting, polishing, and build breakouts.
• Operate tools such as calipers, tweezers, clippers, air guns, dremels, drills, and soldering rods.
• Use computer workstations to review order details and log production information.
• Complete all required checklists and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
• Identify and report non-conforming parts to Leads or Quality Inspectors.
• Manage inventory levels for supplies and assist with general facility maintenance.
• Adhere to all safety and quality protocols, including the use of required personal protective equipment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic and use a calculator.
• Strong hand-eye coordination and the ability to focus on repetitive tasks.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Capability to work safely with sharp objects, including utility knives, files, and rotary tools.
• Ability to lift and move up to 70 pounds.
• Must be able to stand, walk, stoop, or kneel for extended periods.

Nice to have

• Previous experience in a manufacturing setting.
• Background in craft-oriented work such as woodworking or jewelry making.
• Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and various power tools.

Skills & tools

• Measuring tools: calipers, scales.
• Hand and power tools: dremels, drills, hobby knives, files, abrasives.
• Computer literacy for data entry and instruction review.
