About the role
Protolabs is seeking a Digital Manufacturing Designer to manage the transition from customer 3D CAD models to production-ready digital files. You will use internal software to generate quotes and tool paths while supporting the manufacturing floor.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Generate quotes and tool paths using proprietary software and client CAD files
- Perform quality control inspections for production
- Troubleshoot and resolve errors that block the automated quoting system
- Explain manufacturing processes and material options to customers within quotes
- Coordinate with internal teams to address technical inquiries
- Support machine operators and assist with part creation or troubleshooting
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Maintain compliance with all safety and quality protocols
Requirements
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM software
- Ability to master advanced proprietary analysis tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Capability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to follow technical instructions and supervisor guidance
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, or have refugee/asylee status to meet ITAR requirements
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and work in a manufacturing environment requiring eye protection and safety shoes
Nice to have
- Bachelor degree in Engineering or a related field
- Hands-on experience with CNC machinery
- Experience working with Haas machine tools

Practical notes
This role is subject to ITAR regulations, meaning temporary visa holders (E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J, TN, or OPT) are ineligible. Compensation includes a competitive salary and shift differential.
