Key facts

What you'll do

• Review and decide on intricate individual life insurance applications, including those with health challenges, for amounts generally over $5 million, with authority up to $10 million.
• Assess medical, financial, and other relevant data to make well-informed and prompt underwriting judgments.
• Offer expert review and support to less experienced underwriters.
• Collaborate with internal sales departments and distribution partners to achieve business goals.
• Cultivate and sustain positive working relationships with independent brokers and general agencies.
• Handle a substantial workload while upholding high standards for service and accuracy.
• Clearly explain underwriting determinations to all involved parties.
• Aid in the growth of the team through guidance, instruction, and sharing of knowledge.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree or possess equivalent practical experience.
• Have at least 8 years of experience in life insurance underwriting.
• Demonstrate a strong capability to underwrite large and complicated cases, including those with health impairments.
• Possess experience working with independent agents and brokerage general agencies.
• Show evidence of making underwriting decisions for significant coverage amounts and complex risk profiles.

Nice to have

• Hold professional designations such as FALU, FLMI, CLU, or have completed comparable educational programs.
• Maintain ongoing professional development to enhance underwriting expertise.
