About the role
Join Protective's Life Underwriting team to safeguard individuals and families against life's uncertainties. This fully remote position offers the chance to independently assess complex life insurance applications and provide timely, customer-centric decisions.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Independently assess individual life insurance applications, including those with impaired risks, with an approval limit of $3 million.
- Analyze medical, financial, and other relevant information to make informed underwriting judgments.
- Review incoming case requirements and assign appropriate risk classifications based on established guidelines.
- Clearly and professionally communicate underwriting outcomes to both internal teams and external clients.
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with independent agents, brokerages, and internal sales associates.
- Manage a caseload efficiently, adhering to production, quality, and service timelines.
- Collaborate with other departments to achieve business goals, facilitate case placement, and ensure a positive client experience.
- Organize work effectively to deliver accurate and prompt results in a demanding setting.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's degree or possess equivalent practical experience.
- Accumulate at least 6 years of experience in life insurance underwriting.
- Demonstrate a proven capacity to underwrite substantial and intricate cases, including those with health impairments.
- Possess prior experience working within the independent agent and brokerage distribution channels.
- Show evidence of having made underwriting decisions for significant coverage amounts and complex risk profiles.
Nice to have
- Have completed industry-specific coursework relevant to your experience.
- Be working towards or have obtained professional designations such as FALU, FLMI, CLU, or equivalent.
- Have experience supporting distribution partners, including independent agents and BGAs.
- Have experience with individual life insurance cases involving larger face amounts.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance life underwriting expertise.
