About the role

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Incidents and Inspections team within Procore's Quality & Safety (Q&S) division. In this position, you will apply your technical leadership and engineering expertise to create products that influence the construction of hospitals, homes, sports venues, and educational institutions worldwide. The Quality & Safety team develops tools that assist construction teams in managing incidents, inspections, observations, and punch lists, transforming essential customer requirements into SaaS solutions that enhance safety on job sites and ensure project timelines are met.

What you'll do

• You will be expected to become proficient with generative tools and agentic workflows, actively contributing to the future of construction technology.
• Lead the Incidents and Inspections team by defining engineering strategies and overseeing the architecture, translating customer requirements into scalable SaaS products, and aiding in the development and upkeep of features within our Ruby on Rails monolith.
• Make informed technical decisions and mitigate complex challenges within your team while collaborating with other teams across the Q&S product suite and the wider engineering organization.
• Promote and uphold high-quality development practices that guarantee code maintainability, system reliability, and long-term scalability.
• Mentor fellow engineers within your team and across the division by providing constructive feedback during code reviews, collaborating on intricate issues, and enhancing overall engineering standards.
• Improve application performance and reliability, and proactively address technical debt and systemic risks before they affect users.

Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering principles, with a strong emphasis on system design.
• Extensive backend development experience with Ruby on Rails, including practical experience with a large, established Rails monolith.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, with a history of acting as a tech lead and influencing technical direction beyond your immediate team.
• Experience with large-scale systems, including managing platforms and infrastructure that support thousands of hosts and millions of users.
• Familiarity with modern CI/CD systems in a large-scale setting.
• Ability to balance immediate business requirements with strategic long-term technical investments and effectively communicate architectural trade-offs.
• Experience with modern web development lifecycle tools, including testing, staging, deployment, and monitoring.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a talent for working effectively across teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms and microservices architecture.

• This position requires access to technology, software, and data that is regulated under U.S. law, regulation, executive order, or government contract.
• Base Pay Range: 168,560.00 - 231,770.00 USD annually.
