About the role
Prime Medicine seeks a Senior Scientist / Senior Engineer, LNP Process Development to own the creation of lipid nanoparticle processes from initial benchwork through commercial batch release. In this role, you will guide formulation design, scale-up execution, and technology transfer for the Company's gene editing pipeline. Your responsibilities include making critical process decisions that advance drug substance while ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance. You will connect discovery research with manufacturing, guaranteeing that each LNP drug product adheres to quality, consistency, and scalability standards. You will define and execute the unit operation strategy that converts experimental formulations into robust, controlled processes. You will serve as the primary technical leader for LNP process creation within a regulated drug development environment. This role requires deep engagement with cross-functional partners to align scientific goals with production realities. You will ensure that every LNP drug product meets the Company's high standards for quality and patient safety.

What you'll do
You will design LNP formulations and associated unit operations to support program entry and the supply of patient material. You will lead bench and pilot-scale work that defines mixing, encapsulation, and purification methods for drug substance development. Using process data, you will guide decisions that improve robustness, consistency, and manufacturability. You will translate pipeline requirements into scalable methods while coordinating closely with Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams. You will partner with contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) during technology transfer, on-site support, and batch release activities. Maintaining detailed electronic records and technical documentation will be essential to meet regulatory inspection expectations. You will present complex LNP performance data to cross-functional stakeholders and external collaborators in a clear and precise manner. You will own risk assessments and troubleshooting activities to resolve issues that may affect drug product performance. You will define methodical experimental plans that address critical process parameters and material attributes. You will implement analytical strategies to correlate in-process measurements with final product quality.
Requirements
You hold a doctorate in a relevant discipline and bring a minimum of eight years of industrial experience in lipid nanoparticle process development. You have planned and executed LNP development activities, advancing materials from early formulation through established manufacturing. You can interpret complex data and make decisions that balance scientific insight with practical production constraints. You communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats with diverse stakeholders and partners. You use electronic lab notebooks to capture experiments, ensuring traceability and compliance for clinical material. You are capable of working full-time in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with the ability to attend in-person meetings as necessary. You are authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship for this position at this time. You will adhere to company standard operating procedures and regulatory guidelines in all aspects of your work. You will maintain strict data integrity and documentation practices in support of drug substance programs.
Nice to have
Experience with lipid nanoparticle formulation for systemic drug delivery. Familiarity with cGMP environment expectations and regulatory documentation standards.

This role is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and requires full-time on-site availability. The position requires authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship at the time of hiring. Employees are expected to work from the Cambridge location and attend in-person meetings as required by the role.
