AI Engineer, Intern

About the role

Postman is looking for an intern to join our AI team to work on agentic systems and large-scale AI infrastructure. You will contribute to real production systems while receiving mentorship from senior engineers, focusing on the full lifecycle from data pipelines to deployment.

What you'll do

• Collaborate with product managers and designers to define AI problem statements.
• Design data pipelines and AI stores with senior guidance.
• Develop and validate models using PyTorch or JAX.
• Execute large-scale experiments and perform error analysis.
• Build inference APIs and batch scoring workflows.
• Maintain AIOps standards, including CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and model versioning.
• Assist with optimization tasks like quantization and distillation.
• Document design decisions, experiments, and operational runbooks.
• Identify and report concerns regarding privacy, fairness, or model interpretability.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Practical experience with machine learning systems via research, internships, hackathons, or personal projects.
• Strong proficiency in Python or Rust.
• Familiarity with PyTorch or JAX, plus basic SQL and Pandas.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in writing and speech.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Knowledge of Docker.
• Familiarity with model-serving tools like Triton, vLLM, or Ray Serve.

Practical notes

Postman operates on an in-person model. Employees in the San Francisco Bay Area are expected to be in the office 5 days per week.
