About the role
This role involves leading the GenAI Platform team, which builds the internal AI infrastructure powering all customer-facing AI features at Pleo. You will guide a team of experienced engineers through a significant architectural shift, moving towards a hybrid system that fully integrates Python for agentic development. This is a hands-on management position requiring strong technical judgment and leadership.

What you'll do
- Oversee the GenAI Platform team's daily operations, focusing on delivery, quality, team growth, and work methodologies.
- Drive the execution of the platform roadmap, including the LLM gateway, agentic runtime, MCP layer, data retrieval, evaluation tools, and the hybrid architecture transition.
- Manage relationships with Data & AI Products, ensuring the platform roadmap aligns with product needs.
- Actively recruit to expand the team and achieve the technical vision and roadmap.
- Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering on reliability standards, incident response, and production readiness for platform services.
- Represent the team in leadership and cross-functional discussions, translating progress and obstacles into actionable insights.
- Manage the team's budget, including LLM expenses, infrastructure costs, and headcount.
Requirements
- Substantial engineering management experience within platform or infrastructure teams.
- Demonstrated ability to balance technical delivery, hands-on technical decision-making, and people leadership.
- Deep technical knowledge in AI infrastructure to advocate for users, make technical choices, and participate in architectural discussions or direct work.
- Experience managing highly independent senior engineers.
- Proven track record of leading engineering teams through major changes while maintaining delivery speed.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools like Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
- Strong understanding of both platform engineering and data space concepts.
- Eagerness to stay current with technology and engage in hands-on development, potentially with personal agentic solutions.

- This role can be remote, hybrid, or in-person within the UK, provided you have the legal right to work in the country. Visa sponsorship is not available.
