About the role
This position is for a Lead Data Scientist to guide the analytics efforts for a non-profit organization focused on social good. You will develop and implement advanced analytical models to support the organization's mission and enhance community impact. Key facts
What you'll do
- Guide the creation and deployment of advanced data science models to tackle complex social and program-related issues.
- Oversee and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts in a remote setting, promoting technical skill and career advancement.
- Work with program managers and stakeholders to define questions and build data-driven solutions.
- Build and maintain data pipelines for collecting, cleaning, and processing information.
- Conduct in-depth statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling to find insights and inform strategic choices.
- Present findings through visualizations and reports to various audiences, including those without technical backgrounds.
- Keep up-to-date with new developments in data science, machine learning, and AI, and assess their relevance to the organization's work.
- Ensure data accuracy, security, and ethical use in all projects.
- Contribute to the organization's overall data strategy and future plans.
- Promote data understanding and data-informed decision-making throughout the organization.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a similar quantitative field.
- At least 8 years of experience in data science, including a minimum of 3 years in a management or team leadership capacity.
- Proven expertise in machine learning techniques like regression, classification, clustering, and deep learning, as well as statistical modeling.
- Skill in programming languages such as Python or R, and familiarity with libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, and big data technologies like Spark or Hadoop.
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of explaining technical topics to non-technical individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fully remote team setting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- A commitment to using data for positive social change.

- Experience with advanced deep learning frameworks.
- Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) techniques.
