Remote Lead Data Scientist

This position is for a Lead Data Scientist to guide the analytics efforts for a non-profit organization focused on social good. You will develop and implement advanced analytical models to support the organization's mission and enhance community impact. What you'll do

• Guide the creation and deployment of advanced data science models to tackle complex social and program-related issues.
• Oversee and mentor a team of data scientists and analysts in a remote setting, promoting technical skill and career advancement.
• Work with program managers and stakeholders to define questions and build data-driven solutions.
• Build and maintain data pipelines for collecting, cleaning, and processing information.
• Conduct in-depth statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling to find insights and inform strategic choices.
• Present findings through visualizations and reports to various audiences, including those without technical backgrounds.
• Keep up-to-date with new developments in data science, machine learning, and AI, and assess their relevance to the organization's work.
• Ensure data accuracy, security, and ethical use in all projects.
• Contribute to the organization's overall data strategy and future plans.
• Promote data understanding and data-informed decision-making throughout the organization.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. or Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a similar quantitative field.
• At least 8 years of experience in data science, including a minimum of 3 years in a management or team leadership capacity.
• Proven expertise in machine learning techniques like regression, classification, clustering, and deep learning, as well as statistical modeling.
• Skill in programming languages such as Python or R, and familiarity with libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, and big data technologies like Spark or Hadoop.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and MLOps.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, capable of explaining technical topics to non-technical individuals.
• Demonstrated ability to succeed in a fully remote team setting.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• A commitment to using data for positive social change.

Nice to have

• Experience with advanced deep learning frameworks.
