About the role
Pilot is seeking a senior engineer to join the Bookkeeping Automation team to build systems that convert financial data into reliable, audit-ready records. You will manage the full project lifecycle, from initial design to production deployment, while collaborating with product and bookkeeping teams to refine our automation platforms.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead projects from problem definition and technical design through to final implementation and measurement.
- Develop, test, and maintain high-quality code for services and internal tools.
- Design workflows that bridge the gap between automated systems and human operational requirements.
- Create observability and evaluation frameworks to track system quality and resolve performance issues.
- Ensure the security and reliability of platforms processing sensitive financial data.
- Work with product managers and bookkeeping experts to translate complex requirements into functional solutions.
- Provide mentorship to team members and improve engineering standards through code reviews and design documentation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proficiency in Python within production environments.
- Proven history of shipping and owning business-critical or customer-facing systems.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting reliable production infrastructure.
- Ability to make sound product and systems decisions in ambiguous environments.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and teaching other engineers.
Nice to have
- Background in fintech, accounting, or financial operations software.
- Experience building integrations with third-party APIs.
- Knowledge of system security, data permissions, or handling sensitive information.
