What you'll do
- Conduct thorough analysis of project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for various construction projects.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to gather necessary information and clarify project details that impact cost.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of costs for materials, labor, and equipment to support accurate estimating practices.
- Prepare detailed bid proposals and presentations for clients, highlighting the value and quality of Bamboohr's services.
- Review and analyze subcontractor bids to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project specifications.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures throughout the construction process, providing updates and adjustments as necessary.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits to gain a clear understanding of project requirements and constraints.
- estimating software and tools to streamline the estimation process and improve accuracy.
- Assist in the development of project schedules and timelines, ensuring alignment with cost estimates.
- Provide support during the negotiation process with clients and subcontractors to secure favorable terms.
- Stay informed about industry trends, materials, and techniques to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department, sharing insights and best practices with team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role, preferably within the commercial or residential sectors.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as Sage Estimating, PlanSwift, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
Nice to have
- Certification from a recognized estimating or construction management organization (e.g., ASPE, CMAA).
- Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies in construction projects.
- Knowledge of green building practices and sustainable construction methods.
- Familiarity with project management software such as Procore or Microsoft Project.
- Previous experience in a leadership or mentoring role within an estimating team.
Skills & tools
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills to ensure precise calculations and assessments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and proposal writing.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications accurately.
- Strong negotiation skills to facilitate discussions with clients and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with construction safety standards and practices.
