Product Manager : Data Platform

About the role

You will oversee the development of core data infrastructure and internal tooling that supports our national-scale payment operations. This role focuses on building the systems and interfaces that enable our engineering and business teams to process petabyte-scale data efficiently.

What you'll do

• Define the strategy, roadmap, and technical specifications for data platform components, APIs, and developer tools.
• Translate business and stakeholder requirements into functional system interfaces and platform capabilities.
• Collaborate with engineering leads and architects to manage technical debt while balancing performance and reliability.
• Design frameworks for data governance, quality, cataloging, and pipeline optimization at scale.
• Establish and monitor platform health metrics including latency, query performance, uptime, and adoption rates.

Requirements

• 1-3 years of experience as a Product Manager or Associate Product Manager with product ownership, OR 2-3 years of experience as a Data or Backend Engineer with a history of writing PRDs, roadmaps, and conducting user research.
• Strong technical foundation in ETL/ELT pipelines, data warehousing, and data lake/lakehouse architectures.
• Advanced SQL proficiency, specifically regarding query optimization.
• Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: Hive, Spark, Hadoop, HDFS, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Airflow, DBT, Kafka, or Trino.
• Ability to articulate complex problems into structured solutions and iterate via MVP phases.
• Technical communication skills to translate business needs into system specifications and developer interfaces.

Nice to have

• Experience managing data systems at the terabyte or petabyte scale.
• Familiarity with on-premise stacks such as Hive, Spark, HDFS, Hadoop, or Impala.
• Background in building internal developer tools, APIs, or self-service platforms.
• Knowledge of data governance, including lineage, metadata management, access controls, and observability.
• Proficiency with AI-native workflows (ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot) or experience with GenAI features like RAG and LLM applications.
• Evidence of high-potential work such as side projects, published content, or cross-functional leadership.
