Job description
Member of Technical Staff at perplexity.
About the role
Join the AI Products team to enhance the mobile experience for Perplexity users. You will focus on the full user journey, from initial discovery to long-term engagement and upgrades, specifically on iOS. This role involves end-to-end ownership of projects that drive user growth and retention.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design, build, and manage growth-focused features across the iOS mobile funnel, including installation, activation, onboarding, user lifecycle, conversion, retention, and paid upgrades.
- Lead experiments from concept to rollout, implementing many in parallel, and developing flag-driven and server-driven patterns to enable testing independent of app store releases.
- Take ownership of in-app purchase and paywall systems, covering billing integrations, subscription and credit purchase flows, entitlement accuracy, and pricing experiments.
- Create push and lifecycle notification experiences that users willingly opt into, focusing on permission prompts, targeting, timing, deep linking, and measuring their impact on retention.
- Ensure cross-platform consistency by collaborating with web and design engineers for a unified experience across web, iOS, and Android for onboarding, upsells, and in-task nudges.
- Work with the broader Growth team to optimize app store performance and attribution.
- Drive improvements in key metrics such as install-to-activation rates, D1/D7/D30 retention, notification engagement, paid conversion, and habit formation, using reliable data and experiment results.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data Science, Monetization, Marketing, and the core Mobile team to translate user behavior into lasting product features.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional mobile engineering experience delivering consumer applications at a significant scale on iOS.
- Strong native iOS development skills (e.g., Swift/SwiftUI/Objective-C) and a willingness to work on other parts of the technology stack.
- Experience managing a complete release cycle, including build and release tools, phased rollouts, store review processes, crash monitoring, and safe rollbacks.
- Proven ability to execute, shipping multiple experiments and product enhancements simultaneously and achieving clear outcomes.
- Familiarity with A/B testing and experimentation platforms (such as Eppo, Statsig, Optimizely, or internal tools), especially within versioned applications.
- Comfortable making decisions based on data, including the ability to extract, segment, and interpret funnel data.
- Strong product judgment, translating user behavior and growth opportunities into simple, effective technical solutions.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership, proposing experiments, delivering features efficiently, and driving improvements proactively.
- Genuine interest in and use of AI products, with a commitment to rapid learning.
Nice to have
- Direct experience within a growth or experimentation-focused team.
- Extensive experience with in-app payment systems.
- Experience with mobile attribution and measurement platforms (e.g., AppsFlyer, Adjust, Branch) and paid mobile acquisition.
- ASO experience, including store listing experiments and localized metadata.
- Comfort working with backend or web technologies to achieve end-to-end solutions.
- Prior experience at a rapidly growing startup or on an engineering team with high ownership.
