About the role

Perplexity is expanding the Multimodal AI group to develop new ways for users to interact with artificial intelligence beyond traditional touch interfaces. You will build and maintain the infrastructure and product features that enable voice, image, and video communication within our platform.

What you'll do

• Architect and maintain product and platform systems for multimodal AI applications.
• Manage the full development lifecycle of features, from initial technical design to final deployment.
• Iterate on complex technical challenges to improve performance and user experience.
• Collaborate across departments with product managers, designers, data scientists, and go-to-market teams.
• Develop systems that address the specific requirements of multimodal input and output.
• Coordinate with client teams to integrate new functionality into existing stacks.

Requirements

• Proven track record of building and maintaining production-grade systems at scale.
• Proficiency working across the entire stack, from low-level systems to user-facing interfaces.
• Strong product intuition and the ability to convert user needs into functional technical designs.
• Active interest in multimodal AI technology and a commitment to rapid learning.
• Capacity to solve novel problems with long-term, scalable architecture.

Nice to have

• Experience with video or realtime audio processing.
• Technical knowledge of audio stacks, including noise reduction, echo cancellation, automatic-gain control, and audio processing modules.
• Experience building immersive user interfaces that handle realtime data.
• Familiarity with C++ or Rust.

Practical notes

This role is based in San Francisco. Compensation includes a salary range of $220,000 to $405,000 per year and an equity package.
