Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Perk is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join a cross-functional team focused on developing and enhancing our travel and spend management platform. This role involves taking full ownership of features, from initial problem understanding with product teams to design, coding, deployment, and impact measurement. You will contribute to a platform that automates travel bookings, expenses, and invoice processing for over 10,000 companies globally.

What you'll do

• Define and refine project scope, contributing to quarterly goals and long-term vision alongside product and engineering managers.
• Design and document architectural changes for the platform, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Manage technical debt and identify areas for strategic investment to maximize customer impact.
• Facilitate communication and alignment across multiple teams and the broader organization for complex initiatives.
• Mentor less experienced engineers, provide constructive feedback, and elevate the team's overall technical standards.
• Actively participate in engineering guilds and collaborate with architects on solution discovery.
• Utilize AI tools throughout the development lifecycle, from feature specification and code writing to automated PR reviews and production issue diagnosis.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to translate business objectives into technical roadmaps and mitigate project risks through prototyping.
• Experience designing scalable and maintainable systems and data models, considering performance and failure isolation.
• Proven track record of defining and upholding engineering excellence, including CI/CD, testing strategies, and coding standards.
• Expertise in establishing frontend architecture patterns, state management, performance budgets, and comprehensive testing (e.g., E2E/Cypress).
• Skill in engineering sophisticated backend solutions, including API versioning, caching, and data migration.
• Leadership in observability and SRE practices, including defining SLOs, incident response, and post-mortems.
• Oversight of operational security, including secrets management and dependency risk.
• Strong mentorship capabilities, influencing product roadmaps with technical data and leading design reviews.
• Ability to coordinate multi-team deliverables and resolve technical blockers across the organization.
• Experience with or strong interest in modern AI-augmented development workflows, including agentic workflows and custom AI skill development.
• Ability to commute to the London office 3 days a week.
