Sr. Software Engineer

About the role

The Emerging Team at Pendo is developing AI-native features for our product experience platform. We are building original solutions from the ground up to redefine how software teams analyze user behavior. This role requires high autonomy and the ability to navigate ambiguous problems while shipping production-grade AI systems.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Architect and deploy AI systems, including RAG pipelines and agentic workflows.
• Manage the full lifecycle of AI features from initial prototyping to production environments.
• Define evaluation frameworks to monitor model performance, mitigate hallucinations, and ensure output quality.
• Optimize production AI models for latency, cost, and reliability.
• Collaborate with product and design teams to determine the viability and direction of new features.
• Write code across the full stack to deliver functional, user-facing products.
• Monitor industry research on transformers, diffusion models, and orchestration frameworks to inform technical strategy.

Requirements

• Proven experience building and shipping LLM-powered applications, specifically involving RAG and agent orchestration.
• Expertise in system design with a focus on identifying failure modes and making long-term architectural tradeoffs.
• Ability to own technical quality and standards across shared infrastructure.
• Proficiency in designing evaluation suites to address bias and model accuracy.
• Deep understanding of modern model architectures like transformers and diffusion models.
• Experience managing model deployment, monitoring, and production-scale optimization.
• Strong full-stack development skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated product-focused mindset regarding feature development.

Nice to have

• Experience fine-tuning foundation models versus using prompt engineering.
• Knowledge of AI safety protocols and guardrail frameworks.
• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
• Professional background in SaaS or product analytics.
• History of launching new products or establishing new team functions.
