Job description
Senior Design Engineer, Embedded Agreements at PandaDoc
About the role
PandaDoc is seeking its inaugural Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design and engineering for its Embedded Agreements initiatives. This role will be responsible for the architecture of two crucial components: our API and our integrations, which connect PandaDoc to the wider digital tools our clients utilize.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Take full ownership of the design for our API and integrations, encompassing developer-facing API interfaces, documentation experiences, and the in-product user flows for connecting tools.
- Collaborate with product and research teams to define the strategic direction for these areas, monitoring market shifts and audience evolution as API and MCP access becomes more streamlined, and translating these insights into user-centered designs for a growing user base.
- Create and prototype AI-native interaction models for our API, including our ChatGPT application, Claude connector, and MCP integration, focusing on how PandaDoc interfaces with AI assistants and agentic workflows.
- Shape the user experience of integrations across the product, specifically considering how core CRM integrations like Salesforce and HubSpot need to evolve for an agentic environment, and how to balance internally developed integrations with those orchestrated by customers through platforms like Claude via MCP.
- Rapidly prototype concepts using code, transforming designs from Figma or AI conversations into functional, production-ready React components, managing layout, interaction, accessibility, and performance.
- Establish the Design Engineer function at PandaDoc, managing projects from initial problem definition through to launch and influencing the future direction of this role.
- Contribute a technical viewpoint to the design process as the sole Design Engineer on the Embedded Agreements team, sharing established patterns, collaborating on prototypes, and enhancing the technical skills of fellow designers.
- Employ an AI-first approach using Cursor and Claude Code, bringing informed perspectives on achieving high-quality output from these tools.
Requirements
- Demonstrated expertise in both design and front-end engineering, supported by a portfolio of shipped interfaces or widely adopted components.
- Proficiency in React, TypeScript, modern CSS, and a solid understanding of working with API surfaces and developer tools.
- A genuine interest in developer experience, with an understanding of what constitutes a well-designed API beyond mere functionality, and curiosity about how this experience is expanding beyond traditional developers as MCP and AI assistants lower entry barriers.
- Active and opinionated use of Cursor and Claude Code in your daily work, with a clear perspective on generating production-quality results.
- Comfort in building solutions from the ground up, possessing the judgment to set direction in the absence of existing frameworks, and the foresight to collaborate with product on market trends.
