Applied AI Engineer

About the role

Ovivo is looking for an Applied AI Engineer to build and deploy practical AI tools that improve operations across our water and wastewater treatment business. You will work directly with departments like Engineering, Finance, and Field Service to turn business challenges into functional AI solutions that increase efficiency.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Create and launch AI applications, including those using LLMs, enterprise search, and document intelligence workflows.
• Facilitate discovery workshops to identify business needs and guide stakeholders through the adoption of new technology.
• Build prototypes to demonstrate value and secure alignment for larger projects.
• Manage the full lifecycle of AI systems, including data ingestion, model integration, deployment, and API development.
• Coordinate with IT and security teams to ensure all solutions comply with data governance and cybersecurity standards.
• Implement responsible AI practices, focusing on privacy, monitoring, and human oversight.
• Explain technical AI capabilities and limitations to non-technical staff to support organizational change.

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in software, data, or AI/ML engineering.
• Proven track record of building, testing, and deploying machine learning or AI models.
• Experience bridging the gap between business requirements and technical implementation.
• Background in leading stakeholder engagement, discovery sessions, or technology adoption initiatives.

Nice to have

• Experience with document intelligence or enterprise knowledge management systems.
• Background in workflow automation, backend development, or lightweight UI creation.
• Familiarity with production AI operations, governance frameworks, or model risk management.
• Experience acting as an internal consultant or product owner for business transformation projects.

Skills & tools

• Proficiency in Python and API-based software development.
• Experience with generative AI, large language models, prompt engineering, and embeddings.
• Strong knowledge of SQL, enterprise data platforms, and data governance.
• Ability to evaluate AI systems for performance, cost, and accuracy.
