About the role
Overland AI is seeking an Infrastructure Software Engineer to enhance our off-road autonomy initiatives. In this position, you will develop and maintain the software infrastructure that supports our engineering teams in delivering critical systems efficiently and effectively. This role combines elements of software engineering, platform engineering, and developer experience, ensuring our internal tools and libraries are robust and user-friendly.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create and maintain shared libraries, SDKs, and frameworks that facilitate logging, telemetry, database interactions, authentication, and service communication across engineering teams.
- Develop internal tools and automation processes that boost developer efficiency, software quality, and operational performance.
- Collaborate with software and infrastructure teams to build and sustain CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tools, and engineering workflows.
- Work alongside robotics and software teams to establish best practices for service deployment and operation.
- Contribute to the design of cloud-native systems and platform functionalities utilizing AWS, Kubernetes, and on-premise solutions.
- Guide and mentor fellow engineers, influencing the technical direction of shared software platforms and engineering standards.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years in Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Backend Engineering, Developer Experience, DevOps, or related fields.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or C++, with a background in creating production software and reusable libraries.
- Experience in designing and managing shared libraries, APIs, or developer platforms utilized by various engineering teams.
- In-depth knowledge of backend systems, including databases, distributed systems, observability, and service-oriented architectures.
- Familiarity with logging, metrics, and tracing solutions, using tools like DataDog, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- Understanding of cloud and infrastructure technologies, including AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Experience with compliance frameworks such as PCI-DSS, ISO27001, or NIST is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to influence engineering practices across teams and work effectively as a technical generalist.
Nice to have
- Experience in optimizing CI/CD pipelines and workflows.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or GitOps tools such as ArgoCD, Flux, or Spinnaker.
- Knowledge of ML infrastructure, experiment tracking, or data visualization tools.
- Background in hardware integration or working with embedded system interfaces.
- Experience with hybrid or on-premise deployments.
- Previous work on migrating monolithic architectures to microservices.
Practical notes
- Willingness to travel within the state for testing and events, as well as 1-2 weeks per year out-of-state for demonstrations or field exercises.
- Requirement to work onsite in the Seattle office at least three days a week.
- Participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation is expected.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is necessary.
