Senior Product Engineer
Job description
About the role
This role owns the end-to-end delivery of production software that directly powers Orbital Copilot for the world's largest real estate law firms. You will architect and ship features that automate multi-million dollar due diligence workflows using AI-assisted development. The position requires applying professional judgment to balance product ambition with technical constraints in a fast-moving environment. You will collaborate daily with real estate lawyers to ensure the tools meet rigorous legal standards and client expectations. Your decisions will define how AI agents assist in reviewing contracts that represent the largest asset class on earth. You will have direct influence over the roadmap and implementation of core platform capabilities. This is a hands-on role where individual execution and system design intersect to move the industry away from manual processes.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Design and implement customer-facing features using AI coding agents to accelerate delivery while maintaining production-grade quality.
- Review and refine AI-generated code in TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, and Python to ensure it meets strict reliability and performance standards.
- Partner with a small, cross-functional engineering team to define technical specifications and deliver robust functionality on schedule.
- Translate dense real estate legal requirements into technical solutions that enable faster, more transparent property transactions.
- Contribute to system architecture decisions that support scaling from hundreds to hundreds of thousands of transactions.
- Drive improvements in engineering practices by introducing modern tooling and AI-assisted workflows across the development lifecycle.
- Build software that reduces the time lawyers spend on manual document checks and helps clients conduct due diligence with greater confidence.
- Collaborate with product and legal experts to validate that features solve real workflow problems in commercial real estate law.
- Write tests, perform code reviews, and maintain documentation so that the platform remains maintainable as it grows rapidly.
- Take ownership of production issues and work with the team to implement fixes that uphold the highest standards of reliability.
The Impact You'll Have
Your work will help professionals and individuals understand property transactions before they incur massive legal fees. By building for where models are going, you'll contribute to a system that handles over 1 trillion tokens and aims to accelerate legal work by 70%. You are not just solving toy problems - you are fixing a £multi-billion global market that's currently stuck in archaic processes. Your technical decisions will directly determine how we scale from processing 200,000 transactions to transforming the entire industry. Every feature you ship supports a mission to make real estate transactions smarter, faster, and friction-free. You will play a key role in delivering the reliability and precision that firms like Goodwin and BCLP depend on for their due diligence.
What We're Looking For
- A deep conviction that AI will reshape industries and a desire to build at that frontier with urgency and care.
- Evidence of reaching a high level of excellence in a professional, academic, or personal domain through sustained effort and strong outcomes.
- A generalist mindset with the willingness to work across product, design, and AI boundaries to solve complex problems.
- Experience building modern agentic systems or reasoning through complex ML products in production settings.
- A track record of working on products generating £millions in ARR with high growth and clear business impact.
- Rapid career progression demonstrated by moving from junior to senior level in under five years through ownership and results.
- The ability to critique AI-generated output with high standards and technical taste to ensure robust, maintainable solutions.
What We Offer
- Very competitive Salary plus equity options in a Series B startup at a moment of significant market expansion.
- Hybrid working arrangement allowing 1-2 days per week in our Farringdon office in London.
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays and a personal development budget to support continuous growth.
- Free lunch on Wednesdays and a Deliveroo budget for late nights in the office when the team is shipping.
- A cycle-to-work scheme and flexible working hours to support a healthy work-life balance.
Reasons We Might Not Be For You
- We don't have established machine learning infrastructure or a polished corporate playbook - so if you need a well-defined role with clear boundaries, you might find the ambiguity frustrating.
- The pace is intense and the standards are uncomfortably high - which won't suit someone looking for a predictable, low-intensity environment.
- We don't have a traditional career ladder or the brand recognition of a household name - so we're a better fit for those motivated by ownership rather than title or status.
Practical notes
This role is full-time based in London with a hybrid schedule that includes optional days in the Farringdon office. The position requires rapid iteration in a high-pressure environment where delivery quality and reliability are critical. Orbital is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team and encourages applications from people who are traditionally underrepresented in tech, even if they do not meet every single requirement. Security is everyone's responsibility, and all team members are expected to follow security policies, complete regular awareness training, and handle sensitive data in line with ISO 27001 standards.
