Key facts
What you'll do
- Create and refine solutions and best practices focused on Responsible AI.
- Design and implement models to enhance the capabilities and reliability of large language models (LLMs).
- Conduct research and develop scalable machine learning solutions.
- Establish and advance our research and innovation agenda.
- Design, deploy, and implement deep learning models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and LLMs.
- Collaborate with fellow scientists and engineers within the Optum AI team.
Requirements
- A Master's degree in computer science, machine learning, statistics, engineering, mathematics, or a related STEM field.
- At least 3 years of experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
- Minimum of 2 years applying machine learning techniques to natural language processing (NLP), multimodal real-time processing, or other AI domains.
- At least 2 years of experience in generative AI, including grounding architectures, fine-tuning LLMs, and enhancing pre-trained LLM performance.
- A minimum of 2 years developing machine learning applications.
- At least 1 year of experience in agentic research and development.
Nice to have
- A Ph.D. in Machine Learning with a focus on NLP and/or Generative AI.
- Familiarity with advanced deep learning techniques, applied mathematics, and statistics.
- Strong technical and scientific understanding of generative AI.
- Compliance with UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy for remote employees.
Skills & tools
- Proficiency in machine learning frameworks and programming languages relevant to AI/ML development.
- Experience with data analysis, model validation, and performance evaluation techniques.
Practical notes
- The salary for this position ranges from $112,300 to $134,800 annually, depending on various factors such as local labor markets, education, and work experience.
- A comprehensive benefits package is available, including incentive programs, equity stock purchase options, and 401k contributions, subject to eligibility.
- Candidates must pass a drug test prior to employment.
