About the role

We are hiring a Director of AI to define and execute the intelligence strategy for our robotics and software platforms. You will oversee the development of production-grade systems that convert natural language into laboratory protocols while managing a technical team. This position requires a leader who can balance high-level product vision with hands-on engineering contributions.

What you'll do

• Create and manage the AI roadmap in collaboration with product and engineering leadership.
• Develop scalable, reliable AI systems that translate user inputs into validated lab workflows.
• Establish standards for AI performance, validation, and operational trust.
• Manage and grow a team of engineers while fostering cross-departmental workflows.
• Represent the company at industry events and build partnerships with academic and research institutions.
• Oversee the integration of generative AI and machine learning into our robotics ecosystem.

Requirements

• Proven professional background in AI, machine learning, or applied research.
• Experience taking AI products from initial concept through production deployment.
• Ability to design systems that prioritize reliability and usability.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams involving hardware and software.
• Must reside within a commutable distance to New York City.
• Expertise in Python-based AI development and modern ML infrastructure.

Nice to have

• Background in laboratory automation, life sciences, robotics, or scientific software.
• Experience building no-code platforms or AI-enabled developer tools.
• History of collaborating with academic institutions or publishing research.
• Experience building and managing a Physical AI team.
