Start-up Communications Manager, EMEA

About the role
You will lead the day-to-day delivery of the EMEA communications programme for OpenAI's start-up and B2B teams, building proactive plans that clearly show how businesses are being built with OpenAI. You will manage and support creative, proactive communications campaigns, launches, and events across multiple channels to inspire, educate, and build trust with business and technical audiences. You will work cross-functionally and partner with OpenAI's start-up, B2B, developer relations, marketing, product, communications, and global affairs teams to oversee a programme of events, media engagements, and influencer activations across EMEA. You will build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, creators, influencers, and stakeholders across business, technology, developer, start-up, and venture capital communities. You will help prepare briefing materials, talking points, and media engagement plans for OpenAI spokespeople to ensure consistent and credible messaging. In this role, you will play an important part in building awareness, understanding, and trust with founders, developers, and business audiences by demonstrating how OpenAI helps companies build, scale, and create. You will partner closely with the Head of B2B Communications EMEA to execute against strategic priorities and deliver high-impact results in a fast-moving environment.

What you'll do
Lead the day-to-day delivery of the EMEA communications programme for OpenAI's start-up and B2B teams, building proactive plans and managing coordination with EMEA communications agencies.
Manage and support the delivery of creative, proactive communications campaigns, launches, and events across multiple channels including media, influencers, founders, developers, and stakeholders.
Oversee a programme of events, media engagements, and influencer activations across EMEA, working closely with start-up, developer, and business communities.
Help prepare briefing materials, talking points, and media engagement plans for OpenAI spokespeople to ensure clear, credible, and consistent messaging.
Build and maintain relationships with journalists, creators, and influencers across business, technology, developer, start-up, and venture capital communities in EMEA.
Partner cross-functionally with teams such as B2B, start-up, developer relations, global affairs, legal, marketing, and product to align communications with business objectives.
Demonstrate strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple requests, events, and deadlines in a fast-moving, high-impact environment.
Show initiative in developing story angles, coordinating media outreach, and tracking outcomes to inform future communications strategies.
Support the execution of media relations, executive communications, launches, and campaigns that build awareness, understanding, and trust.
Contribute to thought leadership efforts by helping create case studies, content, and campaigns that show how organisations are building and scaling with OpenAI.
Stay current on trends in AI, technology, business, and developer communities to ensure insights inform communications planning and messaging.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure all external communications reflect OpenAI's mission, values, and commitment to safe and responsible AI deployment.
Requirements
Must have professional PR experience (agency or in-house), with expertise in technology, business, start-up, or developer communications across multiple channels including owned and earned media.
Must demonstrate strong creativity and proactive media and influencer relations skills, with a proven ability to devise and manage campaigns for business, founder, and technical audiences.
Must have experience supporting a busy media relations team and senior spokespeople, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, events, and deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
Must be comfortable working cross-functionally with teams such as B2B, start-up, developer relations, global affairs, legal, marketing, and product; must be ambitious, deeply curious about technology, and excited by the next frontier in how businesses are built and how developers create.
Must be based in London and willing to travel internationally when required to support OpenAI's EMEA communications and events.
Must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom without requiring sponsorship from OpenAI for this role.
Must have experience collaborating with external agencies, media partners, and stakeholders to deliver integrated communications programmes.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for diverse audiences including journalists, creators, developers, and executives.
Nice to have
Preferred experience in start-up, venture, or B2B technology communications, with a strong understanding of developer and AI ecosystems.
Preferred ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders while maintaining attention to detail and consistency in messaging.
Preferred experience with media monitoring, analytics, and reporting to measure campaign impact and inform decision-making.
Practical notes
The role is based in London and follows a hybrid work model of three days in the office per week.
Must be willing to travel internationally when required.
