What you'll do

• Drive the technical direction and implementation of networking solutions, traffic management, and service communication in multi-tenant/multi-cluster EKS environments.
• Design and manage resilient service mesh architectures using Istio, incorporating features such as mTLS, traffic policies, and observability with Envoy extensions.
• Establish and enforce standards for HTTP/REST and gRPC APIs, focusing on versioning, governance, and performance metrics.
• Develop automation tools and frameworks in Python and Go to enhance developer efficiency and operational safety.
• Create and manage Terraform-based Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules and pipelines to ensure secure and scalable infrastructure changes.
• Collaborate with security and application teams to implement comprehensive solutions for identity management, encryption, and incident preparedness.
• Provide technical guidance: shape project roadmaps, define success metrics, mitigate project risks, and mentor senior engineers.

Requirements

• Proficient in AWS networking fundamentals, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, and DNS.
• Solid understanding of Kubernetes (K8s) and AWS EKS management at scale, including cluster lifecycle and autoscaling.
• Familiarity with HTTP/REST and gRPC protocols, emphasizing performance and reliability.
• Knowledge of Istio service mesh; experience with Envoy is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting capabilities for traffic communication across layers 3 to 7, including DNS/TLS/MTLS issues.
• Proficient in scripting and programming with Python and Golang.
• Experience with Terraform and best practices in Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Strong leadership abilities to oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring stakeholder alignment and effective communication.

Nice to have

• Experience with service mesh observability tools.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Practical notes

• The base salary for this position ranges from $196,000 to $230,000 USD, depending on various factors such as experience and location. Additional compensation includes bonuses and equity opportunities.
